Spanish syntax, idiomatic construction, word formation, original composition. Conversation and oral drill. Conducted in Spanish. Prerequisite: consent of department.

Translation theory and practice - English to Spanish and Spanish to English. Prerequisite: department consent.

SPAN 655 HISPANIC POPULAR CULTURES (3)

Analysis of a topic concerned with Hispanic folklore and popular cultures. May be repeated for a maximum of 6 units. Prerequisite: department consent.

Comparative examination of the complex relationships between film and society in the Spanish-speaking world. Conducted in Spanish. Prerequisite: department consent.

SPAN 670 SPECIAL TOPICS IN SPANISH LANGUAGE: LITERATURE AND CIVILIZATION (3)

Specialized topics in Spanish language: literature and civilization. Discussion of a central topic with changing emphasis from year to year. May be repeated once for a maximum of 6 units provided a different topic is covered. Prerequisite: department consent.

Cultural analysis of media representations of contemporary issues in the Spanish-speaking world. Prerequisites: FORL 520 and 6 additional units of PBC coursework; major standing.
