Assessment

Assessment is the ongoing process of establishing clear, measurable expected outcomes of student learning; systematically gathering, analyzing and interpreting evidence to determine how well student performance matches those expectations; and using results to understand and improve student learning throughout Towson University. Systematic assessment of student learning occurs at the course, program and institutional levels and encompasses academic and co-curricular activities. Assessment activities aim to deepen student learning and are an integral part of the teaching-learning process. The Academic Assessment Council advises the Office of Assessment on learning assessment matters.

In addition, TU assesses its divisional and unit operational outcomes for institutional effectiveness in alignment with the Strategic Plan. This work is supported by the Committee on Institutional Effectiveness

The Assistant Provost for Assessment, Accreditation and Compliance and the Director of Assessment work closely with faculty, staff and administrators across the institution to oversee TU’s assessment efforts.
