Student Government Association

The Student Government Association (SGA) is the representative governing body of the undergraduate student population. Working jointly with students, faculty, staff and administration, the SGA is dedicated to improving students’ academic, social and cultural environments. Beyond pro-actively pursuing this goal, the SGA also approves and governs student organization budgets. Organized as an executive branch, legislative branch and judicial branch, the SGA’s student officers work diligently to better the Towson University community.

Executive Branch
The Executive Branch comprises the Executive Board, and the Executive Cabinet. The branch is charged with executing passed legislation and leading SGA initiatives.

Legislative Branch
The Legislative Branch is the Student Senate and is comprised of students who are elected and appointed to represent one of the academic colleges. Senators write proper and necessary legislation on important topics and urgent matters concerning the student body at TU.

Judicial Branch
The judicial branch is comprised of a Chief Justice, a Deputy Chief justice and three Associate Justices. This branch ensures the SGA and student organizations comply with the governing documents.

Running for SGA
SGA elections are hosted every spring semester. Any person seeking an SGA elected office must be a full time fee-paying undergraduate student with at least 2.500 cumulative GPA. To run in an election, a petition must be signed out from the SGA administrative assistant in the SGA office, University Union, room 263. Students may sign out a petition to run for the position of president, vice president, treasurer, attorney general, senator or justice. Petitions require the signatures of 200 undergraduate TU students.

Students who are interested in joining SGA outside of the annual spring election period, should visit the SGA website to submit an application.

Voting
Only currently enrolled TU undergraduate students are eligible to vote in the SGA election. All voting will take place on Involved@TU, and can be done via computer or mobile device, whether on-campus or off-campus. During the election days, the election commission will host polling locations across campus to encourage students to vote on their phones.
