International Baccalaureate

Towson University recognizes that the International Baccalaureate (IB) program represents achievement beyond the standard high school program and regularly awards advanced standing to students who successfully complete the IB Diploma Programme and associated coursework. Credit is awarded for either the full Diploma Programme or for students who take IB courses on an ad hoc basis.

IB exam score requirements and their TU course equivalencies are subject to change mid-year; please refer to this website for the standards used for determining IB credit.

Students will not receive credit for both SL and HL courses in the same discipline. In the case where both have been taken, credit will be awarded according to the Higher Level IB course equivalency chart provided the student earned a score of 4 or higher.

TU will only accept officially submitted IB exam scores or diploma for credit within one year of the student’s enrollment to TU. Any scores or diploma submitted after the student's first year will not be eligible for awarded credit.

IB scores will be reviewed during the credit evaluation conducted during the enrollment process. If scores are submitted after the final evaluation process, it is the responsibility of the student to contact the Admissions office for an additional review. IB policies are subject to change and IB credit is awarded based on the active policy at the time of admission. It is highly recommended to submit scores as soon as possible, as scores and credits can impact course scheduling. It is the student's responsibility to send official documentation for review and for credit consideration.
